”Generation Pop Exhibition - hear me, feel me, love me!”
The Völklinger Hütte near Saarbrücken, is a fantastic disused steelworks which is now a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Inside the “Blower Room” which used to provide the “blast” for the blast furnaces there is now an 1,100 seat concert hall. With guest bassist Roland Helm, the Quarrymen played a 45 minute set for the opening ceremony of the “Generation Pop” exhibition which is due to last for 10 months. The Exhibition charts the music, fashion, style and design of the past 50 years of “Generation Pop”, with a totally incredible selection of exhibits, from guitars to bubble cars! This is absolutely worth going well out of your way to visit, we were completely knocked out by the range and the presentation of “Generation Pop”, all of it in the surroundings of the disused steelworks. Our thanks to all the guys at Völklingen for their great hospitality!
