Welcome to the Quarrymen’s Official Website

UPDATED Oct 2016

The Quarrymen at the
Dublin Beatles Festival:

On Sat 9 Nov the Quarrymen were interviewed in a public session at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin by Irish Times journalist Tony Clayton-Lea. During the lively and amusing session Tony came up with an expression which was seized on by the Quarrymen as a possible alternative - and much more accurate - name for the group. He said that presumably the Quarrymen were the “Natural Wastage” from the Beatles career!  So if you now see a band advertised with this name, you’ll know who it really is.......

Later that evening the Quarrymen performed in the Loft at the Grand Social near the Halfpenny Bridge on the banks of the Liffey. Young Tim Fernley played a mean upright bass as our guest bassist.  Also on the bill were the Louisiana 6, a skiffle/country/bluegrass outfit with some vintage Dublin skiifflers aboard. For one Quarrymen the weekend also involved a trip to the Guinness Brewery - for those of you who haven’t seen us in a bar the group is fuelled by Guinness, so this was an important occasion
!

Saturday 14 September:
At the fantastic Völklinger Hütte, Saarbrücken, Germany

”Generation Pop Exhibition
                                        - hear me, feel me, love me!”

The Völklinger Hütte near Saarbrücken, is a fantastic disused steelworks which
is now a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Inside the “Blower Room” which
used to provide the “blast” for the blast furnaces there is now an 1,100 seat concert hall. With guest bassist Roland Helm, the Quarrymen played a 45 minute set for the opening ceremony of the “Generation Pop” exhibition which is due to last for 10 months. The Exhibition charts the music, fashion, style and design of the past 50 years of “Generation Pop”, with a totally incredible selection of exhibits, from guitars to bubble cars! This is absolutely worth going well out of your way to visit, we were completely knocked out by the range and the presentation of “Generation Pop”, all of it in the surroundings of the disused steelworks. Our thanks to all the guys at Völklingen for their great hospitality!

Sat 24 Aug Bestfest at The Casbah, Liverpool

It was hot, it was crowded, sweat was pouring off us, and the audience were only inches away! But it was a great gig!  Thanks to David Bedford for the very graphic photos.....

Fri 20 June Borough Theatre, Abergavenny

We had a great gig at the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny, for the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles’ appearance there. However, so far sadly no photos or videos!

Sat 20 July Hankasalmi Skiffle Festival, Finland

The world’s longest running Skiffle Festival in the middle of Finland, a gig in a huge marquee at Hankasalmi Railway Station - very Rock Island Line, loads of music, plenty of beer and enthusiastic skifflers from all over Europe! A great bunch of
guys!

Sat 8 June Granada, Spain

A fabulous gig, incredible hospitality from Chema Rios and his band “Extrema Urgencia” and their friends from Granada.
